Rethinking Mobile Telephony With the IMP
نویسندگان
چکیده
The recent widespread deployment of wireless LAN technology raises the question of how a mobile telephony system might instead be architected to use wireless LAN access points and the Internet to achieve similar services. In this paper, we examine an end-to-end architecture for mobile telephony, with a strong focus on endpoint issues. We have designed, implemented, and have experience using devices we call Internet Mobile Phones or IMPs. The IMP system provides encrypted wireless voice communication over 802.11B LANs. IMPs run Linux on a lightweight single-board computer running customized voice over IP software; data is encrypted with 128-bit

Forecasting Capital Investment for Fixed-Telephony Network Switching Equipment in Tandem with NGN Migration Using Cobb-Douglas Model
This paper tries to estimate the capital investment required for the fixed-telephony network switching equipment as demanded by the fourth national development plan. As a first step, the Cobb-Douglas model is used as a successful demand forecasting model to estimate the demand over the target years. Then, an architectural plan is developed for the fixed-telephony switching network that takes in...
متن کاملEmpirical Data from Mobile and IP Telephony
Over the recent years enormous changes in the telecommunication services, techniques, regulations and markets have taken place. However, even with many new exciting services the telephony service is still popular. This paper provides empirical traffic data and observations of telephony traffic patterns in mobile and IP telephony. They are presented and compared with old telephony patterns from ...

New product innovations are emerging in large numbers day by day, and constantly struggling for market acceptance. Various models have been constructed to explore the principles of innovation diffusion and market share. The relationships between those innovations also draw the attention of scholars, and many competition models have been established to show today’s competitive social environment...
متن کاملMobile Telephony and Economic Growth in Developing Economies
This chapter investigates the influence of mobile phone penetration on economic growth in developing economies. It is widely agreed that telecommunications infrastructure has a positive effect on GDP growth. The empirical evidence concerns mainly fixed line telephony and is mostly conducted with samples from developed countries. Mobile telephony, on the other hand, may be particularly important...
متن کاملMerger Simulation in Mobile Telephony in Portugal
This article assesses the unilateral effects on prices of a merger in the Portuguese mobile telephony market. We use aggregate quarterly data from 1999 to 2005 and a nested logit model to estimate the price elasticities of demand and the marginal costs of subscription of mobile telephony. Given these estimates, we simulate the effects of the merger. We find that the available mobile telephony s...
